Unveiling the true enemies of Nigeria.
Excellent OZIBORO
Before I begin to unveil the real enemies of the Nigeria State, let's first allow history equipped us to know who are not the true enemies of the country.
Many years ago, our founding fathers began a journey to build a great Nation (Nigeria). This ushered in true Nigeria nationalism where for the first time Nigeria began to embraced the possibility of Nationhood. It all started first with the amalgamation of the Northern and Sourthern protectorate in 1914.
However, six years after the amalgamation, our people still regarded themselves not as Nigerians but as Ibo's, Hausa's, Yoruba's, Urhobo's, Edo's, Ijaw's, Tive's etc. They still viewed themselves as diverse in local tribes and languages under the ruleship of the colonial masters.
In 1920, as the polices of the colonial masters brought untold hardship upon the people under the leadership of our patriotic founding fathers, Nigerians began to crave a sense for National Identity.
The craving sense for National Identity gave birth to the first political party in Nigeria named Nigeria National Democratic Party (NNDP) created by Sir Olayinka Herbert Macaulay an illustratrious grand son of Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowder in 1923.
Sir Herbert Macualay took the first steps towards forgings a Nation in which Nigerians, no matter any part of the country we came from, no matter our tribe or religion will first identify ourselves as Nigerians. To fight this course, a coalition of Nigerians across the country came together to wrestle the soul of Nigeria from the stronghold of the colonial masters.
In the cause of transversing the nation and mobilizing Nigerians under the umbrella of the National Council of Nigeria and Cameron (NCNC), the party that later came from NNDP but was jointly formed by Sir, Herbert Macaulay and Dr. Nnamdi Azikewe who will go on to become Nigeria first President but the 80 years old Herbert Macualay did not live to see. Where Sir Herbert stopped, the likes of Dr. Nnamdi Azikewe, H.O David, Enerst Akinsanya Okoli, Fumilayo Ransome Kute, Magrete Ekpo's, Sir, Alhmed Bello, Sir Tafewa Balewa etc tooked the mantle.
However, our founding fathers just as we are, have their moments of doubt but as some point in their respective tragedies, our founders encountered the possibilities of Nigeria Nationhood. In these defining moment, they embraced prompts of destiny and it came to their minds to build a Nation.
Sir Abubakar Tefewa Balewa as the prime minister then later recalled after his visit to the United State of America, he said "In less than 200 years, this great country American was married together by the people of so many different backgrounds, the beauty mighty Nation forgotten where they came from and who their ancestors was, they are proud in one thing which is the America citizenship". He wrote to a friend and said, "look am now a change person I never knew till now that Nigeria will be one United country but if the American would do it, so we can".
It was the reason Sir, Alhmed Bello once said "Here in Northern Nigeria, we have many people of different races, tribes and languages who came together by common history, interest and ideas. Let's us forget different in our religions and remember the common brotherhood before God".
In the same vein, Dr. Nnamdi Azikewe in his efforts to dis-trabalised Nigeria wrote in his book title the Zik of Africa declared "the three regions is versely different in many interest but each has this in common, despite varieties of language and customs or difference in climate all formed part of one country which has existed as a political and social entity for years; that is why we believe the Nigeria political union is destined to be perpetual and indestructible".
It was why Chief Obafemi Awolowo became convinced that Nigeria is not just a mere geographical expressions, he stood up and said "It is a duties that will hold to our great dear Mother land, let us enhanced and booast her in the eyes of all the world, egalitarianism is our National watchwords, equity of good fortune must be to each surely word, liberty and brotherhood are the good on which each word strives, progress and plenty and all the good things of life, up up Nigeria take your rightful place, it is your birth right and destiny, Africa leading light to be".
History recorded that one administration to another emanated some were military, civilian and some recycle government. These different administration gave one inescapable factors of life which are CHANCES, CHOICES AND CONSEQUENCES.
Each administration has it's own opportunities to make unique contribution to the growth of the Nation. Some shoulder the responsibilities to preserved the union and kept Nigeria together through the test of the civil war in 1966. They where those who have the opportunity to map out National development plans and kick start the process of trans-national infrastructures agenda.
Also, there were some who led the country in time of boom and who have the responsibilities to make wise decisions on the favourably ways to manage our time of plenty.
They where those who where prepared against the carcanworm of corruption that began to consumed the fabric of our Nationhood. Our Nationalist handover to those who have the opportunity to repaired the bridges and rebuild stable democratic foundations.
Each generational leaders back then inherited unique set of chances through their policies, value choices and governance. They caved their respective legacies through wise and patriotic decisions making and some equally made mistake.
Now, after the struggles of our founding fathers even in the midst of tragedies, It is crystal clear here to note that our founders are not the enemies of the country. An 100 years ago, when the coalition of Nationhood brought together Nigerians, the common enemies as at that time was the oppressive rule of the colonial masters. However, nearly 60 years after our independent, we can't no longer blame the colonial masters for the state of our nation. As a matter of fact the Britain as transmitted from being a master to a partners. So, we must not be quisted that former colonalist acting in their National interest are the enemies of the Nigeria State.
Today, we have seen different agitations group such as the movement for the actualisation for the sovereign state of the Biafra(MASSOB), Arewa People's Congress, Oduduwa People's Congress, Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta(MEND), the Middle-Belt Forum and other sectional agitators carving for self determinations. In some cases, government will even go ahead to proscribed these groups because of their methods of sectional agitations.
But it is also imperative to know that those sectional agitators in as much their activities are for the public good and they are calling for better representation in content of true Federalism within the provision of the international law are Nationalist and Patriots. We must not look at them as enemies of the country.
We have see cases where young vibrate activist, freedom crusaders deploying social media and other conventional means to opposed harsh policies, programs and actions of government being arrested, tortured and even killed in the cause to speak for the voiceless and vulnerable Nigerians. It will interest you know that these tireless Nigeria youth who see the need for better Nigeria are not the enemies of Nigeria.
At this point you may be asking who/what are the enemies of Nigeria ?
In Nigeria, the majority of our people regularly takes torns and perpetrating cycle of corruption either as benefitors or beneficiary.
I will make it unquestionably clear here that our enemies are not far from us, they live within us. They are the political profiteers, men in high and low places seeking percentages of selfish deals. These enemies are those who want the country divided permanently so they can remains in office as very important person (VIP) within the society.
The trabalists, Nepotists, those who make the country look big for nothing before the international cycle, those who have corrupted our socities and put the Nigeria political calendar backward by their words and actions.
The true enemies of Nigeria are find at every level of government in the local, State and ferderal level, they are in every aims of government in the Executive, Judiciary and Legislature. They are also find in the streets, household and market places.
At the local government Level, the enemies of Nigeria are those agent of oppression who placed excruciative multi tax burden on defenceless petty traders, okade riders, keke drivers, bricklayers, pepper grinders, carpenters, vulcanisers, mechanics and other artisans not because they will use the proceed for the benefits of the people but because they must take remittance to their morally corrupt political bankrupt benefitors.
At the State government level, they are the state government that feed fat on unaccounted security vote, collaborate with political God father's to privatized the state. They deployed the forces of the state to quench decency and personalised local government structures in such a manner to discredit sincere argument for restructuring and devaluation of powers.
At the zonal level of government, these enemies of the country are those who have perverted their influence and turned the state within their zone into personal state, they are the political profiteers who rigged the system to enthroned their political God's sons and daughters and used them to corner resources and opportunities.
They are the political bandits and socal Democrats who are wicked in merchandising the WILL of the people by masterminding vote buying to engineer continuous outbreak of political instability in the country, they specialized not in infrastructural development but stomach infrastructures.
At the federal government level, the true enemies are in every aims of the government. In the Judiciary, they are those Chief Justice and Judges who pervert justice and auction judgement to the highest bidder.
In the Legislature, they are those lawmakers who rob the country under the axis of constituency projects, who lobbied themselves into house committee so they can negotiate with heads of MDA'S on how much to be added to National budget (Budget Padding). They are quick to pass law that undermine our National freedom and interests.
In the Executive, the enemies are those who lobbied their way to become heads of MDA's without competence. They deployed the machinery of the state against the common citizens, they prefer serving their self and family than the people.
These enemies in citizens clothing are those who also choose to be spectators while the country go down on their watch. The enemies are those religious leaders on pulpits who hide under the umbrella of holiness and Godliness to manipulate the vulnerable in the society. These enemies are those who are perpetually in positions because they can't come and go and die. They are those armed robbers, rapists, kidnappers and murderers all in the name of hunger.
Those who sell their vote or joined political bandits to shortchange their generations, those who loot taxpayers money and celebrate looters because they belong to the same ethnic groups or religious organization. They are those who say "We Know SAY na Thief, but this Thief Na our Thief" these are the true enemies of Nigeria.
As it was with our founding fathers who looked beyond and raise a powerful voice of freedom, the new era must be to once again come together as one people to rescue the soul of Nigeria from the mouth of these Lion and build a great Nigeria.
We must stop celebrating these enemies of our Nation, in this new decade we have the opportunity to make right choices and change the gear of the Nation to actualised the dreams of our founding fathers.
I believe strongly it wasn't a coincidence President Buhari have the privilege in presiding over the Nation at the turn of this new decade.
The President must take the led in building a legacy that will facilitate the emergency of the Nigeria of our dreams. In this note, the three focus objectives must drive his government.
This government must be driven by strong leadership. Strong leadership in this context means recruiting strong men and women who will build strong institutions, determining the most convenient objectives of National building and convey all energy of the State on those critical areas. Strong leadership here means result oriented governance in which people, policies, programs and process are retained in government only to the extent they contribute to productivities.
Our founding fathers dreams must keep us awake to our responsibilities as co-builders. As they rose 100 years ago, we must raise from our slumber at this critical time to become the architects of a new coalition that will facilitate the emergency of a new Nigeria.
We must decide weather we belong to the camp of the true enemies or a patriotic citizens who will not engage in counter productive blame games, concur to the forces of divisions, aids sentiment of ethnicity and religion, people who will not love and support their native land.
Now, it is time to keep aside religion, zonal, ethnic and other difference and speak with one voice against the enemies of our common patrimony. It is time to unite from Calabar-Madugari, Lagos-Kano, River-Oyo, Aba-Abuja from the nook and cranny of the Nation to build a new Nigeria that works for every Nigerians.
A Nigeria where no child go to bed hungry and no child is left from school. Where our homes, school, streets, villages, highways and cities are secured. Where our hospitals are well equipped as a life saving institutions. A Nigeria where no youth are unemployed and our youths are job creator, where business strive, innovation and ideas are facilitate by functional infrastructures.
Where no part of our Nation, North, South, East and West feel marginalized and every Nigerians is proud to say " I'M A NIGERIAN". I strongly believe we are the cause of wind of change that will ushered in the new Nigeria, Nigeria that will led Africa to greatest.
