This is our 18years experience of Democracy, in Nigeria. The question that
always comes to my mind in every May 29, is the question of,
How Democratic
is Democratic Nigeria?
The Nigeria Recessional Economy is not far from Depression, unless, proper
measure is being taken. The economy was one of the strongest economy during
the 1970s oil boom. But today, Nigeria is no where to be found in League of
Nations economy order. This is the reality in Democratic Nigeria.
Military coup had eventually be replaced by electoral coup. Making the latter a
takeoff point of the former. Electoral malpractice is now a legitimate ways of
winning a democratic elections.. All former generals are coming to us in the
disguise of Democratic salvation, when their bones are no longer inflammable
for action. Crisis of participation and unbridled poverty has deprived youth of
like minds, of the mantle of leadership, this the reality in Democratic Nigeria...
The polity of Nigeria has been so constricted, that it now take huge amount of
money to contest and win elections. Youth with political ambitions are wearying
off in the street, with a dream dashed out for daily bread. The political
situations of the Nation is so strategize to favour most former generals and
head of states...All the institutions (eg Education, judiciary, skill acquisition,
empowerment institutions e.t.c) that firmly promoted the slogan of, the
youth
are the leaders of tomorrow are now under the tutelage of political parties and
leaders... Youth are now being empowered with wheelbarrows and crude
implement for farming, in this 21st century (HiTech age)...When I saw the
attitudes of most youths toward Nigeria Political milieu, I wept for Nigeria...
Popular, Abraham Lincoln, Defined, Democracy as the government of the people,
by the people and for the people. Little wonder the definition of Democracy in
Nigeria is synonymous with the concept of Oligarchy...Nigeria Democratic
system has no difference from Oligarchy system... In Democratic Nigeria all the
issues that triggered the civil war has not been attended to, all the ills that
consisted the National Question is still bending. Most Nations of the world
united and integrated from civil war, but Nigeria disunited and disintegrated
from civil war. Diversity is a natural resources that has contributed to national
heritage and economy of most nations, but in the case of Nigeria, it has always
been a source of insurgency and insecurity...
The most painful part is this, the senators and all those that constitutes the
National House of Assembly, always point to Ethnicity and Religion as the
major problems in Nigeria, but my question is this, why is this ethnicity and
religion not being a problem for them, when it comes to sharing of the National
cake, drafting of salaries, awarding of contracts, dividing of NNPC and FIRS
monies... Who are they deceiving?? We are no longer illiterate, education is at
our finger tip...
What then is the way forward.. Total Implementation of the 2014 National
Conference Reports On Political party, electoral process, and a complete practise of Federalism which entails the true principle of Resource Control
